Pastafarianism or the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a social movement that promotes a light-hearted view of religion and opposes the teaching of ‘intelligent design’ and ‘creationism’ in public schools.
WAIT. WHAT??Yup. To cut a very, very, very long story short – ‘intelligent design’ and ‘creationism’ are basically concepts that try to make religion seem more like a science – and therefore, more err… believable. Whew.
WHO STARTED IT ALL?
The “Flying Spaghetti Monster” was first described in a satirical open letter written by Bobby Henderson in 2005 to protest the decision to permit teaching ‘intelligent design’ as an alternative to evolution in public school science classes. Pretty serious eh?

Pastafarianism is a legally recognized religion in the Netherlands and New Zealand. Hey, in April 2016, the world’s first legally recognized Pastafarian wedding was performed. Seems legit.
